What if my bin isn't collected?

If your bin is missed, report it to your local council within 48 hours of your scheduled collection day. Most councils have an online form for reporting missed collections.

How do I order a new or replacement bin?

Contact your local council to request a new or replacement bin. There may be a charge for replacement bins if they've been damaged due to misuse or lost.

What time should I put my bins out?

Bins should be put out by 6:00 AM on your collection day, or the evening before. Please bring them back onto your property as soon as possible after collection.

Where can I dispose of large items?

For large items, you can:

  • Book a bulky waste collection through your council (fees apply)
  • Take items to your local Household Waste Recycling Centre

Frequently asked questions

How does the Suffolk bin day checker work?+

Enter your postcode and we match it to the correct district or borough council, then send you to that council’s official collection calendar for exact dates. Councils remain the source of truth after the June 2026 Better Recycling changes.

Does this include the new food waste collection?+

Yes — from June 2026 most homes have weekly food waste. Your council calendar should show the food caddy day alongside recycling and residual rubbish. See our food waste bins guide for what can go in the caddy.

Why did my collection day change in 2026?+

Better Recycling / Simpler Recycling required weekly food waste and separate paper and card. Many Suffolk councils adjusted residual and recycling frequencies (for example three-weekly refuse). Use your new calendar, not an old fridge magnet.

What if my bin is missed?+

Report it through your council’s website or waste phone line, usually within 24–48 hours. Have your address ready. Do not overfill bins while waiting for a return visit.
